“It’s no coincidence that Françoise Huguier’s first remarkable fashion photos were published in the early 1980s in the daily newspaper Libération. At the same time as it was inventing a new way of reporting on the news of ready-to-wear and couture shows, Libération – and especially Christian Caujolle, then director of the photo department – was asking a few photographers whose specialty was not fashion to show images of this revolution in their windows. Françoise Huguier was part of this adventure. Here, it’s worth talking about Françoise’s invention, “Huguier’s touch”: the tilted, twisted, angled framing that is her trademark. The more spectacular the garment, whether in its purity or overload, the more the eye is drawn to what escapes this exaltation: the hairstyle, the face, the eyes, the mouth, the hands… By tilting her frame from bottom to top, Françoise Huguier has captured this geometry in the space of fashion. And reserved it for this occasion. In this respect, Françoise Huguier doesn’t represent, she sublimates. Gérard Lefort
