François Fontaine — Supernature
LES PHOTAUMNALES
Le Quadrilatère – Beauvais (FRANCE)
From the 28th of September 2019 to the 5th of January 2020
“Supernature” is an imaginary safari which pays tribute to the forces of nature, its beauty and its poetry.
” I’m scared of Animals but I need them. They are flesh and blood. My strenght and hope. I build weapons to fight them and to nourish myself. From day to night I fight my war, all the time measuring my power and fragilities. We are from the same violent soil, weather the same storms. Sometimes I draw them on the rocks to tell our story : we are brothers of the wilderness.
I build walls, cities, capital. I’m reigning above nature, taking profit. My intelligence serves my interests, my machinery protects me. I became a modern man who is fighting his demons. I’m neither scared of darkness nor of the Animals which I dominate, exploit or tame. I feel free, and forget my primitive territory, as I’m running towards the light of the future. My technological achievements are superior to my emotional ones. I lost a part of myself. My solitude oftentimes is big.
It’s a dream where my wild brothers appear and bring me back to the fire and salt of my lands. A dream – colourful and blurry, sublime and unreal where silence follows storms, from dusk till dawn. A dream so poetic, it unfolds like a turban in the wind. I become again that naked child who admires : the strength and beauty of those who are not my pray any longer, but witnesses restituiting my missing part – me, the human animal.”
