From his earliest works, Denis Darzacq has considered the representation of the body at the heart of his research: its place in social and political space.
Hyper (2007-2010) and ACT (2009-2011) presented here are the fruit of the evolution of his work. These bodies in dialogue with their environment, in a precarious equilibrium, are a way of questioning the place of each individual in society.
In the Hyper series, Denis Darzacq shifts the bodies to give them life in another constrained environment: the supermarket. Here, the bodies are magnified, as they float and levitate between the implacably geometric shelves, between the desire to escape from an overly materialistic reality and the angry discouragement at their inability to change the way things are. Lightness of a moment in this materialistic universe, a challenge to weightlessness… and consumerism.
ACT is a work he carried out over 2 years with disabled people. The models, some of them dancers or actors, apprehend new spaces in movements that free them for a moment from a constrained body, with grace and majesty.
For Denis Darzacq, the photographs in the Hyper and ACT series are the same. It’s all about breaking free from constraints and fighting against the resignation of an assigned place. He creates a powerful, liberating energy that flows from his models to us. He invites us to become one with others.
