With this series, in the town of Corbeil-Essonnes, Cyril Zannettacci has seized on the opportunity offered by the organization of the Olympic Games in Paris this year to highlight the region’s sportsmen and women.
Cyril Zannettacci went out to meet members of the local sporting community, both experienced and amateur, young and old, to discuss and define with them, in a collaborative effort, the essence of their sport in a single gesture. In the studio, the gesture is captured against a black background, with the lights cutting out and isolating the athlete, allowing us to see what usually goes so fast.
The result of these shots is then projected, at night, onto bridges, factories, street furniture and the highest building facades in Corbeil-Essonnes, in a powerful gesture of appropriation of urban space by its inhabitants. The anonymous people who play sport on a daily basis, and the associations that strive to unite and give meaning to sporting values, are thus given pride of place at the heart of the city.
Exposing the energy of these moving bodies on a grand scale, Cyril Zannettacci’s project gives us a glimpse (initially ephemeral, but made permanent by photography) of the heights and fiery joy of sport at the height of our lives.
