In 2023, the Escaudoeuvres sugar refinery celebrates its 150th anniversary.

The refinery is fascinating for its juxtaposition of architecture from all eras and for the monumental scale of the site and its production machinery. This documentary bears witness to the mutation of the notion of progress in the industrial process and the disappearance of the worker.

By confronting Ina archives with contemporary images of the Escaudoeurves site in operation, it is the ambiguity between the registers that questions the status of the images and the link held that connects us to the past.
