Town hall of the 10th
72 rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin, Paris
As part of the Rencontres photographiques du 10ème, Adrien Selbert is exhibiting The Real Edges, a body of work produced in Bosnia over several years and ending in 2021, 25 years after the end of the war, a long-term wandering haunted by the question: is there an after to the aftermath of war? Can a country lose consciousness? Here, it’s no longer war, it’s not peace. It’s that in-between time we call post-war. This particular time is precisely that hyphen between the two words. Except that nobody knows its real length. And that’s precisely what I’m here to photograph. 25 years after the end of the conflict in Bosnia, The Real Edges is a statement of time, rather than a statement of place. The country has wanted to settle its accounts with space – the internal borders that put an end to the war – and the issue now seems to be the cohabitation of times. The dead and the living, the veterans of the conflict, the Bosnians, the Serbs, the Croats and the youth born in its rubble. Everyone seems to be wandering in their own time and beliefs. Like a sleepwalker. A book published by Bec en l’air.
