Harragas
This early twenty-first century is marked by the globalization of our economies, the acceleration of the exchanges between countries and the increase of human migrations for economical or political reasons.
Harraga means “to burn” in Arabic. By extension, it is also applied to young people leaving Maghreb, “burning” the road and their documents in order to try to reach Europe on makeshift boats. During their journey across Mediterranean, they also use their cellphones to take pictures of themselves or the sea.
