Goudron : Tanger-Le Cap
“For five years now, I have been travelling across Africa, from North to South, in an impossible journey. Initially, this project was supposed to last a few month, at most a year. Now I realize that these paths I thought I was taking freely, don’t exist anymore. The roads and the trainlines are non-existent or in very bad condition, the borders are closed and some regions are at war.
In order to open up Africa, it is necessary to let its people circulate, exchange and trade freely within their own space. It is actually one of the main projects of the African Union to build and renovate the main roads between the countries, however, one can imagine that if the trades were not made by sea or air, beautiful roads could cross the continent. After this long journey, it seems that all these obstacles to the circulation of people and goods are a real factor of underdevelopment. In my work, I talk about this invisible border, this awful boundary that blocks your every step…” – Bruno Boudjelal
