A carte blanche is a risk to be taken. The one we took when we invited Juan Manuel Castro Prieto for the fourth book in the ImageSingulières collection was minimal, it must be said! However, Castro Prieto did not choose the easy way out by working, in the old-fashioned and colourful way, with his 20×25 room. He came to talk to us from memory. And each of his images is like a piece of an impressionist puzzle: a detail, a local figure, a memory collected with accent… The pastel images he delivers to us without apparent pain, with a good manners and an astonishing kindness, come together without false notes to give us the poetic reflection of a city. But let us not be mistaken, Juan Manuel questions his own past as much as Sète’s.
