Steeve Iuncker has conducted several years of research on the passage from childhood to adulthood, questioning the absence of identified “rites of passage” in our secular societies. His images capture acts of adolescents that resemble unconscious rites. Risk-taking, a quest for oblivion as a form of death and rebirth, flirting with limits, transformative acts: the photographer weaves a subtle visual landscape of molting and sketches a nuanced portrait of a youth in search of self. These photographs, taken with a silver camera and then transformed by a four-color Fresson carbon print, are accompanied by texts by art historian Caroline Recher and anthropologist David Le Breton.
