In Marseilles, for more than 20 years now, a unique experience in Europe has been expanding, founded on the cultural diversity and the artistic research, at the junction of social, urban and educative concerns. “Fabrique en mouvement” (built in motion), is a territory larger than 4 hectares, which innovates empirically around practices shared by the artists, but also by cultural and public producers.
“La Friche de La Belle de Mai” bares the name of the district it is part of. It is registered in the historical, social and economic reality of the city, but its project is about crossing the geographic and symbolic boarders of every cultural representation. Over the years, this shared project carried out by the 70 facilities in charge of animating and expanding the site, has created a public place, where everyday life can be enjoyed.
For this book, the photographer Frédéric Lecloux and the writer Arno Bertina were invited to cast their gaze on this singular adventure.
Hosted in 2013 for an art residency at “La Belle de Mai”, they are giving in this opus their impressions on a story that keeps reinventing itself. This book is a funny, poetic and politic opus on these women and men wishing to simply rethink the world around them and the notion of living together.
