Qatar, le nouvel Eldorado du foot, 2013

Depuis l’annonce de l’attribution de la coupe du monde de foot au Qatar en 2022, cet émirat du Golf prend une place prépondérante dans l’économie mondiale du sport.

Rachat de grands clubs européens, construction d’infrastructures pouvant accueillir la compétition FIFA, création de chaînes de télévision spécialisées retransmettant les matchs des compétitions internationales comme la Ligua, la Première Ligue, rien n’est trop beau, trop grand, pour le Qatar.

Ainsi, le Prince héritier Tamin bin Hamad Al-Thani qui adore le football comme le prince Albert est l’homme qui a racheté le Paris Saint-Germain en juin 2011. Depuis, le club parisien effectue chaque année à Doha son stage hivernal dans le complexe sportif d’Aspire. Même si le PSG ne représente qu’une part très faible des investissements à l’étranger du pays, c’est un outil de communication par excellence, comme le précise son président Nasser Al Khelaifi: « Ouvrir les portes du Qatar pour que le monde entier puisse admirer ce qui se passe ici. »

Doha accueille déjà des compétitions de grande ampleur, comme la coupe d’Asie des nations en 2011 et y organise des matchs amicaux.
Un championnat national de qualité à travers les clubs qataris s’y déroule. L’Académie Aspire dotée d’équipement ultra-modernes et d’un personnel hautement qualifié mise sur la formation d’excellence pour ses stars de demain. C’est ici que sont détectés les meilleurs joueurs qui composeront l’équipe nationale pour le Mondial de 2022.

Le réseau de télévision y joue sa part au niveau planétaire grâce à Al Jazeera Sports qui recrute des anciens joueurs comme chroniqueur et au niveau local et dans le monde arabe avec la chaîne Al Kass.

Le pays n’a pas de grande tradition footballistique et pourtant, dans les cafés du souk de Doha, à la sortie des stades, dans les parcs et les « Malls » on voit apparaître auprès des nouvelles générations, un engouement pour le foot, la naissance de la notion de supporter d’une équipe, et la consommation de produits liés au sport. Même les filles s’y mettent : une équipe féminine nationale a vu le jour en 2009, et une ligue de foot, avec 8 équipes féminines, se joue chaque année.
