The Colombia of Garcia marquez

Author and Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez always writes about his country, Colombia. In one of his novels 'The General in his Labyrinth', he tells of the last journey of Simón Bolívar -Latin America's liberator- down the Magdalena river, going old and defeated to exile and death.

The Magdalena river is a vital artery for Colombia. For many years it was the principal transportation route in the country and it has been the 'mother and father' for the Colombians.
