Agence VU - Yvon Lambert
Yvon Lambert

Yvon Lambert was born in Luxembourg in 1955.

After having worked as a technical engineer in the steel industry, Yvon Lambert completed his photography studies in Brussels. His first photographic project, "A Naples Winter," was completed between 1990 and 1991. During a trip to Laos in 2001 and another to Vietnam in 2002, he photographed a series commissioned by Luxembourg's Cooperation Ministry. Since 1994, he has regularly worked on the theme of borders throughout Europe, a project that earned him the Grand Prix from the town of Vevey in 1995. He has also participated in the exhibition, "Borders: the growth of edges," at the Bibliothèque Publique d'Information at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.

In 2004, he published "Returns from Roumania," and in 2005, he collaborated with writer Nico Helminger to create "Brennweiten der begegnung," a portrait of a town in Luxembourg. His latest book, a work co-produced with Cuban writer Karla Suarez and published by Husson in Brussels, "Lizards," details daily life in Havana, Cuba. Always fascinated by travel, he is currently undertaking projects in New York, Istanbul, and Tokyo.

Luxembourg, life in the Kirchberg (2017)

“The work of Yvon Lambert on the Kirchberg Plateau is unexpected. First of all because he sometimes shoots the same places in color and in black and white. Secondly because his very personal vision, even if it uses buildings as a frame for the photography, puts humans at the center of the image. How could it be otherwise, knowing his distanced curiosity for his fellow men? Sometimes, he also focuses on nature in the margins of the urban context, to our surprise.” Patrick Gillen The project commissioned by the Kirchberg Fund

On Vacation (2014)

How do locals and visitors spend their leisure time in the north of Luxembourg? “On Vacation” plays out on Lambert’s home stage. The starting point for this project was imbued with interest and curiosity about Luxembourg’s tourist landscape. The images of Yvon Lambert illustrate the photographer’s experiences from various angles: from the quiet observer all the way to the active consumer of the region’s leisure and recreational activities. The photography work illustrates tradition, cultural heritage and their marketing. Much like an essay on individual visions and local identity, the photographs are a convincing descriptive sketch of freedom and leisure time, which appear neither...

Terres fermes (2014)

Yvon Lambert traveled across the rural landscapes of Luxembourg through several seasons, topographies and encounters, and give us here a poetic and sensitive assessment. “ (…) Even if agriculture has evolved a lot, for a city-dweller like me the essential things you can feel in this rural environment still remain: an authentic contact with nature and the feeling of being a part of it (…). Here and there appeared obvious gestures, objects, smells that reminded me of my childhood, at the time when my father used to take me to see his uncle who was living alone in a small farm nearby Hagen, giving me the opportunity to discover nature. This place tinged with poetry was becoming for me a...

Napoli (2012)

Laos (2001)

This photographic work of Yvon Lambert on Laos was done over a two-month period ( december 2000 to February 2001) with the support of the Humanitarian Action and Cooperation Ministry of Luxembourg. Along the Meking river, vital road of Laos, the photographer is relating daily life of the Laotian.

Cuba (1996)

This photographic portrait of the Havana has been done during several trips between 1996 and 2000. Yvon Lambert is giving to see, beyond the colourful clichés on most publications about Cuba, the Havana in a black and white atmosphere, moments of life, gestures, looks that talk at the same time about the joy to live but also about thefragility of the Cuban society today.

Derniers feux

Smoke, dust, incandescent metal, machinery - these fragmentary visions tracing the final moment of a blast-furnace suggest a first reading for their documentary interest.

Border stories (Clervaux)
From 2017-09-30 to 2018-09-29

The common factor linking all the locations depicted in these photographic stories is that they were or still are home to border crossings. This roaming, cultivated by the dialogue between the observer and the photographer, is to be viewed and understood as an attempt to associate borders - government-imposed objects - with individual destinies, with the destinies of those who have crossed these borders, been stopped by them, even died at them, like Walter Benjamin. The words of Franz Kafka, Walter Benjamin, Georges Perec, Peter Handke and several other writers determined the choice of the...

Cuba (Luxembourg)
From 2017-01-19 to 2017-02-25

Havana is a photographic challenge. Even those who have never been there have this picturesque image of the city conveyed by photography and cinema: people nonchalantly leaning against their old American pampered with love or framing in the windows of colonial houses with fallen splendor and flaky plaster - and still in this powerful and typical color the Caribbean. Yvon Lambert did not succumb to the temptation to weld the \"morbid charm\" of Havana. His medium of expression is black and white photography, which, devoid of the descriptive character of color, attracts our attention...

On Vacation (Clervaux)
From 2014-07-26 to 2014-10-26

“Vacation” is synonymous with relaxation and recreation. Figuratively speaking, the word implies a sense of personal freedom and a time of life that is outwardly characterised by joy and fun, spontaneity and insouciance – an only too welcome break from the daily grind! These days freedom is tantamount to leisure. This suggests a novel social achievement , which is limited in duration, but in terms of design widely linked to free will and personal mood. “Vacation” elevates leisure time to the focal point of the event, be it within a local setting or while on the move. How do locals and...
