Sur les traces de l\u2019Afrique fant\u00f4me<\/strong>
\nBetween May 1988 and January 1990, from Benin to Cameroon, with an incursion into Ethiopia, Fran\u00e7oise Huguier escaped this time on the tracks of l\u2019Afrique fant\u00f4me, the famous road book written by Michel Leiris from May 1931 to February 1993 on the occasion of the Dakar-Djibouti Mission. For her, Leiris’s book acts as a singular travel guide, a sort of diary full of appointments made for her in the early 1930s.
\n“Her pictures don’t say: it’s not what it used to be, poor Africa and so on. Rather, they support Leiris’s “sentimental construction”, and convey the “taste of the wonderful” that brought her to the land of the Blacks.” Michel Cressole<\/em><\/p>\n

Secr\u00e8tes<\/strong>
\nIn Burkina Faso and Mali, where she has often travelled, Fran\u00e7oise Huguier took the time to meet people: she talked to them, she went into their houses, into the women’s rooms, she listened. In this way, she earned the right to photograph their lives, and brought back a series of portraits captured in intimacy, simplicity and shared respect. It is the glances that captivate you: close, intense glances, glances of women collected on the threshold, in the refuge of a room, in the abandonment of a bed corner. Each photograph betrays complicity.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div>
