Juan Manuel Castro Prieto first visited Peru in 1990. He went to Cuzco to make prints from negatives on glass plates of Martin Chambi (1891-1973) where the archives of the great Peruvian photographer whose work he admired are kept.<\/p>\n

From this first trip, he maintained a privileged relationship with this country that he never ceased to explore.
\nThere, he produced thousands of black and white images with a large format camera. If he photographs the remarkable sites but does not stop there, he dives into the jungle and goes to meet the populations of remote villages. He does not carry out a work of documentation, but draws with this personal and introspective work the personal myth that the country inspires him, giving free rein to his imagination nourished by the images of Martin Chambi and the books of Jos\u00e9 Maria Arguedas, Ciro Alegr\u00eda and the poet C\u00e9sar Vallejo (it should not be forgotten that the work of the Spanish photographer is nourished by literature).<\/p>\n

Between mysticism, grandiose landscapes and timeless populations, Peru offers to Juan Manuel Castro Prieto a territory of spiritual, human and photographic exploration to put into practice his appetite for travel, both mental and geographical, and to realize his images between dream and materiality.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/p><\/div>
