Images from Vanessa Winship’s series She dances on Jackson<\/em> are presented at the Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles as part of the group exhibition But still, it turns<\/em> which proposes to show life as it is – in all its wonderful complexity – within the United States of the 21st century through the work of eight post-documentary photographers.<\/p>\n

For more than a year, Vanessa Winship crossed the United States, from California to Virginia, from New Mexico to Montana, in pursuit of the mirage of the “American dream”. She dances on Jackson<\/em> reads like a conversation, a poetic and cadenced interaction between landscapes and portraits exploring the vastness of the United States and attempting to understand the bond that is created between a territory and its inhabitants. For Winship, this relationship becomes inextricable: each place takes on meaning based on who she meets, what she sees, and what happens to her. The people, sounds and smells add an extra dimension to her work and images.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
