Paris
2015

Rediscovering his hometown, Guillaume Zuili gives us a poetic look on the tumult of Paris. A poetry that takes us to Baudelaire's spleen, also to the hard-boiled novels and the film noirs.

The Parisian street appears sometimes dark and disturbing with its drawn metal curtains and crumbling walls, sometimes loud and roaring when the passers aggregate into a shapeless mass on the sidewalks searching of a bus, of a shop or a place at the terrace of a cafe.

As "enjoying the crowd is an art," Guillaume Zuili excels to freeze this movement from ground level, with tight framings that allow compositions where the shadows and the reflections guess the environment in where they develop.

If some localization cues are swarming on this route, there is no traces of the “postcard city” and we are immersed in the personal and changing geography of the photographer.
